Random site of August

Even though it is Kooter's birthday month, he won't get his birthday wish.

This is the mother of all random websites:

  • GO!!
  • Sin isn't fun

Part of the Christian life is waking up from the delusion of our world. We are told and sold countless lies on an everyday basis. Our culture is constantly imprinting us with ideas... some true, some not-so-true. One of those ideas is that sin is more fun. Lately my wife and I watched the movie "Hitch", and at one point I was pleasantly suprised by the seemingly positive light the movie was putting on monogamy. Hitch, played by Will Smith, is told by his billiard buddy that chasing women will never give him the joy and satisfaction that the unconditional love and trust of his wife gives. I thought... "Wow, something so true coming out of Hollywood". I was impressed... until five seconds later when the married man is lustfully mesmorized by a few attractive women who walk in the door.

Not unlike every other message our culture tells us, the scene was telling me that Hitch's buddy didn't really believe what he said- and that he'd surely have more fun with the attractive women. It doesn't take a genius to look at the families and lives of countless men and women who buy into that lie and ruin thier marriages to realize that pure, dedicated fidelity would have in fact made them more happy, gratified, and fullfilled than they could ever be again. But sexual fidelity is just one of the numerous aspects of life that God rewards. When we know and love God, we love his ways and his righteousness. The challenge is resisting the lies that surround us. When we are tempted to believe the lie that sin is more fun, we ought to evaluate why we are believing it. When we walk in his light, a joy like no other abounds.
